The legality or ethics of using false personae to gather information.

For this first draft assignment I only need to see a strong thesis statement an outline of you essay (or a completed paper in lieu of outline) Essay Assignment Description For this writing assignment, I would like you to think about the legality or ethics of using false personae to gather information. For those who work for the U.S. government, there are legal restrictions about lying to gain information. For those that work in the civilian sector, there are fewer legal issues but perhaps more ethical ones. Do your research, pick an argument, and defend it. This paper is more about how you defend your argument than what argument you made. Note: this is not an opportunity to parrot back my own lessons to me. I want to see that you are thinking through these issues. I am also not expecting a 500 word essay to attack the whole of legality or ethics on false personas. Pick a topic within that subjects; don’t try to cover all of them. One caveat, unfortunately, is that finding evidence for this topic can be very difficult. Most organizations don’t like to admit when they lie on purpose. National security OSINT collectors generally don’t tell you their actual processes because our adversaries could develop defenses against them. Private OSINT collectors have the same issue but also run into the fact that their competitors could copy their capabilities. Law enforcement, on the other hand, almost always does have to admit it eventually when they go to court, so we have a lot more data on law enforcement use from court cases. To receive credit, your paper must meet the following minimum standards: Be between 500 and 1000 words Essays less than 500 or greater than 1000 words will receive zero consideration Note: All relevant graphics, properly captioned and referenced, count as 50 words. Be in Times New Roman, 12 point font or Calibri 11 pt font, double spaced, with 1 inch margins Use the American Psychological Association (APA) writing style guide and citations. Include a title page, appropriate page headers and footers, and a references page (not incl. in word count.) Use at least 2 quality sources (quality is a value judgement that doesn’t include Wikipedia or similar websites.) I also recommend that your paper follow the “MEAL” planLinks to an external site.. In other words, the introduction should make the case, the body paragraphs should give arguments in support of the case (each with their own main idea, evidence, analysis, and linking sentences,) and the conclusion should tie the case together. In fact, I recommend reading the whole Duke crafting process page (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Your grade is based upon creating a strong thesis argument and supporting that argument with an effective outline. I expect the outline to look something like this: Introduction paragraph Thesis: OSINT collection with false personas should not be used when bananas are on the line. Argument 1: Endangered Main Idea: The lack of genetic diversity in existing banana cultivars endangers the fruit, particularly in the modern popular Cavendish variety. Evidence: Studies by Genebank Platform. (Include actual citations.) Analysis: When plants or animals have too little biodiversity, a single disease has the potential to run rampant in that species, weakening or destroying it outright. Link: (into next paragraph) This lack of genetic diversity also makes the banana particularly sensitive to the kinds of trauma incautious OSINT collectors may inflict while mimicking other people. Argument 2: OSINT collectors are hard on fruit.
